Managing our Minds vs Changing Our Mindset - by a Life Coach

Managing the mind and changing the mindset are two different processes. Managing the mind involves teaching or controlling our minds to deal with certain situations and handle certain problems more effectively. This can involve not being reactive, controlling our passions or temperament and even not over thinking to the point of stressing ourselves. It also implies being disciplined, having a strong will and not procrastinating.

Changing the mindset on the other hand is more about shifting our perspective and approach. This involves changing our attitude, values and beliefs; our subconscious programming and the way we are wired to respond.

In managing our Mind we need to understand the Mind, break it down to different parts and practice bringing each part under control. These component parts are the intellect, the processor, the memory and lastly the identities. This helps in examining our reactions to situations and people, and instead of allowing our reactions to determine our behavior, choosing a response that is more constructive and positive.

Changing our Mindset involves reflecting and evaluating our beliefs and attitudes and changing them to facilitate productive behaviors.

A good life coach will strategize and guide his/her client to separate these 2 aspects and subsequently work on specific techniques for each aspect of the Mind. Psychologist understand this better and do so routinely.
